ATTACK CLOSE OUT THE SEASON IN STYLE!!!!

September 2nd, 2008

It was the last game of the season tonight for the League Champions and Whitby looked like just that “Champions”!  The Ajax Hornets had the unfortunate luck of meeting the Attack who were coming off a well earned rest after a tough season.  The girls were more than up for this game and it showed.

Right from the start Whitby took control and had their way for most of the game.  Some beautiful plays and calm layoff’s made the Attack look very slick against a over matched Ajax side.  In the end it was a very one sided game with the final 6 - 0 Whitby.

Great game ladies!!!! Great season ladies!!!! As always the Coaches are proud and honored to train such a talented bunch.

Scoring tonight were Shea N, Kirsten, Kelly, Emma and Ally 2

ATTACK ROCHESTER CHAMPS!!!!

GATES CHALLENGE CHAMPIONS 2008

Well it took awhile but the final of the Gates Cup was played Saturday at Rossland field in Whitby (long story). Vaughn Azzurri and Whitby Attack were meeting for the sixth time and the third time in tournament final play over the past three years and both know they must be at their very best or get beat.

Vaughn and Whitby have both won their respective leagues for 3 consecutive years each and will be in the top level of the CGSL next year battling for the title with other top teams from the three merging leagues. Can’t wait for that!!!

The game was played full field 11 v 11 which put Whitby at a slight disadvantage as Vaughn plays 11 v 11 in the York league. We all expected a great game and thats what we got as this was a battle from the very beginning. The first half was fairly even with both teams creating a couple of decent scoring chances but no one could convert. The second half was slightly more in Whitby’s favour in possession and scoring chances.

This still looked destined to remain goalless especially after the best chance of the game, a beautiful cross over the keeper was volleyed from 6 yards out and somehow she got there and kept it out, keeping Whitby off the board. The goal finally came about 3/4 into the game from a laser off the boot of Sadie and into the top corner. The Attack almost added another late, but didn’t need it as the game ended right after that play, to the delight of a bunch of very tired girls.

Final Result Attack 1 - Vaughn 0

Well Done girls (both teams) As always a pleasure to watch your hard work and wonderful soccer skills.

ATTACK AND DARLINGTON DRAW WEEK #13 CESL

August 23rd, 2008

The Attack traveled to Darlington for an away game this past week in CESL action. Darlington needed the points to stay in third and the Attack were looking to continue a successful season. The scoring was opened by Darlington as play was even with both teams sharing chances. The Attack pulled even with a beautiful free kick  that bent around the Darlington wall (although the wall did seem to sway a little). Nice left Kirsten. The Attack pulled ahead in the second half with a shot from Emma’s left foot that found it’s way from outside the box through a crowd.

The Attack were carrying much of the play throughout the game and looked to have another victory sealed. With only a few minutes left the Darlington team was battling for at least a single point. Darlington kept battling and found the back of the net to bring the game even.

ATTACK GO FOR THE CESL 1st DIVISION TITLE VS WEXFORD!!!!!

August 5th, 2008

It was a rainy night in Scarborough tonight as the Whitby Attack took on an always tough team in the Wexford Panthers. If Whitby won this game they would take top spot in the league for an amazing 3rd consecutive year.

The girls know how important the league is and played like true champions tonight. The whole team played hard and won almost every loose ball. They created a ton of chances and converted on many. Some of the best plays were just wide or saved by a very good Wexford keeper. Keep playing like that girls and you will be hard to beat by anyone.

Final Result Attack 6 - Wexford 0

Scoring was Sadie 2, Shea N 2, Serra and Tate.

Congratulations on winning the CESL 1st division!!!!! Kelly, Sara, Ally, Kaitlyn, Cassandra, Jessica, Serra, Shae K, Kirsten, Brooke, Emma, Maria, Tate, Shea N and Sadie.

The Coaches are proud of you for all your hard work and dedication this year!!!

Remember it is something to be good but it is something very special to be consistently good and this proves just that!!!!!!  Well done.

ATTACK VS AJAX UNITED CESL WEEK 11!!!!

July 31st, 2008

Whitby was at home Tuesday night to play the United from Ajax. These teams are on different end of the league standings but if the first game between the two was any indication the Attack would have to play well to earn the points.

Unfortunately for the neutrals in the crowd this one became one sided quite early and the Attack ran away with it. On an up side there was allot of nice combination play and some good finishes. More importantly 3 points and one step closer to promotion.

Good game girls,

Final Result Whitby 8- Ajax United 0

Scoring was Shea N 4, Sadie 2, Kirsten and Ally

DIFFERENT YEAR… SAME RESULT

July 24th, 2008

For the second year in a row the Attack were required to play in the first round of Cup play against a strong opponent and for the second year in a row the top team in the CESL will bow out early.

The Attack came up against a very hungry and skilled Wexford Panthers tonight in CESL Cup action. From the start of play the Panthers had a step on the Attack and closed out the Attack strikers at every chance. The Panthers took the lead on a beautiful finish from a corner and pulled ahead 2-0 by capitalizing on their chances. The Attack pulled it to 2-1 with a well placed free kick from Ally, but the Panthers #14 struck a left foot into the goal to put them back up by two. In the last minute of play Sadie scored from an Ally corner but it was too little too late.

Wexford might be lower in the CESL rankings but they definitely brought their “A” game tonight and the Attack failed to capitalize when the chances were presented.

Wexford 3 Attack 2

ATTACK VS OSHAWA KICKS CESL WEEK 10!!!

July 23rd, 2008

I was curious to see if the girls would come out strong or flat after such a dominating weekend in Rochester (answer is STRONG!!). Back on Canadian soil the Attack were in Oshawa to take on the Fury. The girls came out very fast and controlled play the entire game. Oshawa was down but battled right to the end in a very physical game. The Whitby passing and wide play was the difference in this one, Oshawa’s Keeper played great or this could have been a much higher score.

Great game girls,

Final Score Attack 6 - Kicks 0

Scoring was Sadie 3, Kelly 2 and Shea N

ATTACK ROX IN ROCHESTER!!

July 22nd, 2008

The Whitby Attack U11 Attack ventured across the border for the first time in their young careers to take part in the Gates Soccer Club Tournament in Rochester, New York on the weekend. The girls were playing short handed while missing three key players in the midfield. This meant the rest of the team would have to step up and fill in for the missing players. Step up they did. The Attack opened the tournament with a 14-0 trouncing of the Victor/Farm Devils. Because of the tournament format the girls were forced to fill the net often to ensure goal differential would not be a factor later in the tournament.

The second match came against another American team in the CNY United Fury. Again the girls played extremely well and came out with a 6-0 win. The game featured some of the best play displayed by the Attack all season long. The passes were crisp and the finishes were excellent.

The third game of the tournament, on Sunday, saw the Attack face the Outlaws (another local team). This game ended in the same result with a 5-0 by the Attack. Once again all the players stepped up and filled in for the missing mids admirably.

With three shutouts the girls earned 1 1/2 extra points and were ready for a rematch against one of their familiar opponents in the Vaughn Azzuri. The final day of the tournament saw quite a few rain delays and the game against the Azzuri was pushed further and further into the schedule. Finally it was decided the game would be played on Canadian soil at a later date. Stay tuned for the result!!

All in all it was a great weekend. The girls played some of the best soccer that many have seen. Everyone was entertained with the soccer, the shopping, the ribs and one giant frog that has been rumoured to have found it’s way back into Canada as an Attack mascot (or Coach Fraser’s snack ).

THUNDER VISIT ATTACK!!! CESL WEEK 9!!!

July 15th, 2008

No need to hype this one up as the two talented teams have been battling each other for four years and the match up is always fun for the fans.

Whitby had much of the play through the first half and were playing a well disciplined game generating quite a few scoring chances early, but the strong keeper for Ajax showed that it was going to take something special to beat her on this night.  That came in the form of Tate who battled her way through a tough Thunder defense and scored a goal that can be summed up in one word “determination”.  Shea added another after a hard chalenge and cool finish.  The second half was much of the same but it was Ajax who got one back late against the run of play which made for an exciting finish.

That was it for the scoring, so a close score but I thought tonight was one of our most complete games played all year.  Each girl had a very strong game and played with heart and skill.  Well done Kelly, Sara, Ally, Kaitlyn, Jessica, Serra, Shae K, Kirsten, Brooke, Emma, Maria, Tate, Shea N and Sadie.  Cass was resting her sore knee so she will be ready for the Tournament in Rochester the weekend.  Good luck girls  I know you will do great!!

Final result Attack 2 - Thunder 1
